GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD7 NEC USB 3.0 DRIVER
This signifies USB 3. This board also supports a Turbo USB 3. This cleans up the process that would take up to 7 steps into a single step.
In addition to saving board real estate, this approach is said to improve efficiency and lower temperatures. We don't yet know how the memory controller embedded in Intel's Sandy Bridge CPUs performs, but it's definitely a dual-channel design. Starting from the left, the first four ports are actually old-school 3Gbps ones tied to the P67 chipset.
That port cluster is pretty loaded, and as you can see, it's got all kinds of SuperSpeed USB connectivity. There are a total of 10 USB 3. All of them are fed by a pair of two-port NEC controllers, although there's obviously a considerable amount of sharing going on.
The other Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7 NEC USB 3.0 hub then provides connectivity to the four ports on the board itself. Plug 10 SuperSpeed devices in and the multiplexing nature of the setup means that the overall bandwidth will be brought to its knees. Packed to the gills Gigabyte, then, is looking to extend the usefulness of the P67 chipset by adding in a smorgasbord of extra features: There's not much else Gigabyte can add, frankly, and we're looking forward to evaluating it with a Sandy Bridge chip in situ.
You can see Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7 NEC USB 3.0 CPU socket area is designed with the largest of heatsinks in mind, I think almost any heatsink would fit into this area. There is no front panel USB 3. So I am unsure how end users are supposed to take advantage of this feature yet, but it is nice to know it's there for future use.
Heatsinks Removed Here you can see the heatsinks and heatpipe combo has been removed. Up to 10 USB 3. On the front of the box you can see the design of the motherboard itself, showcasing the black PCB and gold accented heatsinks.
