We've seen the 13in version of this notebook before, Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 we loved, but this is the Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 time we're taking a look at the 15in model, and it doesn't really feel like a 15in model at all thanks to its clever design. Physical characteristics The metal chassis and lid of the Series 9 make it feel sturdier than most laptops of this size on the Australian market and they also give it that premium look and feel. The design and shape of the 15in Series 9 is the same as the 13in model, except that it's scaled up a little, but not too much. A lot of screen size has been packed into a relatively small chassis that's only about 40mm wider than the Where most notebooks tend to have a noticeable frame around their screen, the Series 9's is only 11mm and this makes the viewing area look vast.

It is very much a luxurious computer that's aimed at executives and other users who want to make an impression with their hardware, but it's still a regular computer after all, with mostly regular ports. However, the port selection along the sides is limited, and this has to do with the fact that the chassis is so thin — at 8mm not counting the rubber feet on the base the chassis is only slightly thicker than the USB ports it houses, and it's only 15mm Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 with the lid closed. On the right side there are two USB 3.

On the left side there is a little more: All of these ports are located at the rear half of the chassis, which has the thickest edging, Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 the front half houses the stereo speakers. These speakers are located on the underside of the chassis, where it tapers Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0, and this makes them easy to muffle when you're not using the laptop on a flat surface. The connections on the left include USB 2. There is also a built-in microphone here.

Because it's such a light laptop considering its 15in size it's only 1. Be warned though, if you do use this laptop for tasks that make a lot of use of the CPU streaming Flash-based video, for examplethen the base will get noticeably warm. The chassis acts as a heat sink of sorts and heat can be felt on the topside Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 the chassis near the edges, too.

There are vents on the base that facilitate cool air intake, so you won't want to block them when using the notebook for CPU-intensive tasks. Air is exhausted via two vents at the rear, which should also be left clear. Thankfully, Samsung has improved the backlighting. In a completely dark room, we were able to clearly make out individual keys, although the nit SuperBright Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 illuminated the keyboard so thoroughly that the backlighting seemed almost superfluous. The cursor glided smoothly and accurately across the screen, and clicks registered throughout Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 surface of the pad, rather than just the lower third.

Multitouch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom and three-finger-swipe proved equally reliable. Display The Series 9's inch x pixel matte display is nearly as bright as its predecessor, registering lux on the light meter to the old inch Series 9's jaw-dropping lux.

The XPS 15's fabulous x p display came close at lux, while the Sleekbook 6z's x screen Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 a meager a lux. The average ultraportable sports a brightness of lux. A p trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises" looked suitably dark and menacing. Details such as the sweat on Bane's skin stood out in sharp relief, and the bright oranges and reds of billowing explosions popped Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 the screen. We noticed a bit of pixelation in darker scenes, but not enough to distract the eye. Turning up the volume to the maximum, Hans Zimmer's swelling orchestral track filled the room. With no subwoofer, the Series 9 lacks some of the "oomph" of thicker notebooks such as the XPS 15, but it manages to maintain accuracy even at full volume.

Samsung have, however, provided some contrast to the black paint by providing three shiny metal highlights. The keys are black.

One is a narrow strip around the generously sized touchpad which is very slightly recessed into the palm restanother is a strip wrapping around the front and sides of the chassis and a third is a matching Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 around the edge of the display. The overall impression is one of quality without being ostentatious.

Those people who prefer silver to black should search for the NPX4D. Base of NPX4C As with many ultrabooks, there is no official provision for user access to the inside. The metal base is secured to the main chassis using 10 small screws and this most likely helps the structural rigidity. The intrepid owner may, however, choose to carefully remove the screws and lift off the base. Half of the inside is occupied by the battery The inside is dominated by the lithium-polymer battery, each side of which is a loudspeaker which look very similar to those on the smaller Series 9.

However, unlike the smaller sibling Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 is only one cooling fan and there are two normal Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 slots, so 16GB RAM is a feasible upgrade option.

The two Wi-Fi antenna are in the yellow area between the hinges, the SSD is to the left of the fan, the the Intel Wi-Fi card is to the right of Samsung NP900X4C-A01US USB 3.0 fan, the CPU in the middle and the two memory slots on the right side. The various ports, with the exception of the power socket, appear to be directly mounted onto the board. However, closer examination shows that the board under the SSD is separate from the main board. Altogether there are one USB 2. There is also an SD card slot. Even the power jack uses an unusually small plug. No ports and just a small recess in the center to help with opening the display Back side: Two air vents between the hinges Left side, left to right: Power jack, USB 2. Samsung claim that it is an exceptionally bright nit panel which makes it usable outside.
