PANASONIC VIERA TX-P50ST50Y TV DRIVER
Finally there is a control for turning off the 3D Signal Message and there are some Safety Precautions Features There's no question that the P50ST50B comes with an impressive array of features including Freeview HD but in order to utilise this and other features, the display needs to be set up correctly first.
TEST: Panasonic Viera TX-P50ST50Y – Mstar
This Panasonic Viera TX-P50ST50Y TV is fairly painless and when you first turn the P50ST50B on, you will be asked if you want to tune in all the digital channels. This only takes a few minutes and the resulting Electronic Programme Guide EPG is a big improvement on last year as Panasonic appear to have dropped all the unwanted adverts, leaving a guide that is easy to read and use.
As an added feature, you can also connect a HDD via USB and use the programming timer in the menu system to record and store programming. Unlike last year, the P50ST50 has WiFi built-in, so you can connect directly to your wireless network. If you don't have a wireless network then you can connect to your router or network using a LAN cable. It's fair to say that we'll be hearing a lot about Smart TV this year from all the manufacturers and Panasonic is no exception. They have branded their line-up as Smart VIERA which is an all-encompassing phrase that includes design, picture quality, connectivity and interactivity. Well we already covered the design aspects and we'll look at picture quality next but what about the other two?
Well, the VIERA Connect internet platform looks basically the same as last year but Panasonic have added a number of new applications to their platform. Obviously the ubiquitous BBC iPlayer is present and correct and of course there's Skype although you'll need Panasonic Viera TX-P50ST50Y TV camera and microphone attachment to use itas well as Twitter and Facebook. Besides having a wide choice of apps, the other important elements of an internet platform are that it is easy to access and responsive. In this sense VIERA Connect was a success because it was easy to access, you just press the Internet button on the remote, and it was reasonably quick to navigate. In fact it seemed quicker than last year, although it's only the GT50 and VT50 that will include dual core processing, so it'll be interesting to see how quick they are.
The interface was easy to connect and simple to use, providing an effective way of controlling and communicating with the P50ST50B. As far as connectivity goes, the P50ST50B is fully DLNA certified which means it can connect with other such devices and stream content over you home network.

We found sharing content between a tablet device and the P50ST50B to be very easy using Panasonic's 'swiping' technology. Quite simply if something is playing on the tablet, if you hold your finger down and move it upwards, the content will begin playing on the P50ST50B.
Test Results Measured Results Out-of-the-Box We initially ran the P50ST50B in for about 50 hours before we began taking any measurements and when we checked the different picture modes, we found that True Cinema unsurprisingly proved to be the most accurate. We initially selected a Gamma setting of 2. We also set the Sharpness control to zero because at this setting the lines on our sharpness test pattern were well defined with no ringing or softness. Finally we ensured that all the special features were turned off. As you can see from the graph above, the out-of-the-box greyscale performance was actually very good with overall DeltaEs errors of less than five and most at around three. Panasonic Viera TX-P50ST50Y TV is at the very edge of what the human eye can perceive and this was borne out by putting up a stair step greyscale, which actually looked pretty good.
As the RGB Balance shows blue is tracking quite closely to the target of whilst Panasonic Viera TX-P50ST50Y TV is tracking quite closely from 60 IRE and above. When we used a gamma setting of 2. Overall we preferred the higher gamma setting, the peak at 90 stim wasn't a problem and the overall blacks looked much better.
We then measured the out-of-the-box colour gamut and as the CIE Chart Panasonic Viera TX-P50ST50Y TV shows it was also pretty good. The overall errors are quite low with the exception of red which has errors in luminance, saturation and hue. There are also some errors in the luminance and saturation of blue and since magenta is a combination of red and blue, there are also errors in the secondary colour.
As result, flesh tones have a slight red hue to them but overall the colours looked reasonably accurate and combined with the excellent greyscale, the True Cinema mode offers a great option for those that aren't able to get their P50ST50B calibrated. Calibrated Results As was mentioned Panasonic Viera TX-P50ST50Y TV the main body of the review, the P50ST50B now has a two point white balance control and a colour management system included in the user menus. So given the excellent starting point that we had from the out-of-the-box settings, we would expect to be able to achieve a reference performance using these controls.

As the RGB Balance in the graph above shows, by using the two point white balance we were able to get all three primary colours to track at the target of This resulted in errors of less than three and Panasonic Viera TX-P50ST50Y TV most cases less than one. However, overall, this is a reference greyscale performance from the P50ST50B and Panasonic are to be congratulated for including a white balance control.
As the CIE Chart now shows, white is hitting the target of D65, which is represented by the square in the middle of the triangle. By having an accurate colour temperature for white, the overall colour gamut improved to a degree and we could then use the CMS to improve still further.

Since the CMS only has controls for the primary colours red, green and bluewe initially tried calibrating them and thus trying to correct the secondary colours cyan, magenta and yellow in the process. However we found after some experimentation, that the best approach was to begin by reducing the overall luminance of all six colours using the Colour control. After that we used the CMS to correct the luminance, saturation and the hue of the primary colours and, as such, corrected the errors Panasonic Viera TX-P50ST50Y TV the secondary colours at the same time. Once you have set up your network connection, you can then begin Panasonic Viera TX-P50ST50Y TV the P50ST50's Smart TV capabilities, which Panasonic call VIERA.
